Development of the spectrophotometric method for the determination of metoprolol in tablets by using bromophenol blue

The aim of the work was to develop a simple, economical and eco-friendly spectrophotometric method for determining metoprolol tartrate in tablets based on reaction with bromophenol blue (BPB).
 Material methods: A double–beam Shimadzu UV-Visible spectrophotometer, spectral bandwidth 1 nm wavelength accuracy ±0.5 nm, Model –UV 1800 (Japan), Software UV-Probe 2.62, pair cm matched quartz cells, used measure absorbance resulting solution. All chemicals were analytical reagent grade. Pharmacopeial standard samples (BPB) provided by Sigma-Aldrich (≥ 98%, HPLC). dosage forms are Metoprolol 50 mg 100 mg.
 Results discussion: determination quantitative content its BPB methanol solution has been developed. stoichiometric ratios reactive components as 1:1 obtained methods continuous changes saturation method. developed validated. linearity regression equation y = 0.0373x + 0.0038, correlation coefficient R2=0.9984. linear relationship found between at λmax concentration range 9.56-15.02 µg/mL. LOD LOQ values calculated be 0.81 µg/mL 2.67 µg/mL.
 Conclusions. BPB. validated accordance requirements SPhU. We suggest our offered detailed successful solutions mentioned less sophisticated equipment QC lab routine manufacturing control
